The Watch and The History Beyond
What does a watch mean to you? At first, there was nothing to be interested about when I saw a watch as I thought that they were not more than just a time-pointing device. But, something really made its sense when my father showed me one of his precious collection. A used Rolex: an Oyster one. I still haven’t any interest to that ordinary Rolex watch until he said to me “Don’t look at the shape nor the price, Son. History behind this watch is more valuable than anything you know”.
“This watch once belong to my friend”, he said. Then he told me about how one of his mate made the 1,000 miles of bicycling while using the Rolex to count his progress. He was a truly adventurer since he had over than 5,000 meters record of accumulated heights of mountain-climbing. My father wasn’t a mount-climber nor an adventurer, but he was one of the adventurer’s best mate since they were in high school. And the used Oyster Rolex was given as a gift upon my father’s wedding.
Unfortunately, the adventurer deceased because of an accident as he continued to climb one of the highest mountain, not long after my father’s marriage. Thus, the Rolex watch become a priceless memorable to my father. And he keep it safely as precious as a fine estate jewelry.
And again I ask, what does a watch mean to you? A time-pointing device, a jewelry, or maybe memorable? Upon my father’s story, I began to drive my attention to discover more about watches. I think I’m gonna buy one of them someday, but not today. And I tend to browse sites which not only sell watches but also knows how it worth. I believe Gray & Son did it.
